Eunseo Kim/ Chapter2 Part5 A2 Draft2 / Wed1-2

Love can be defined by whatever it is. Individuals with different backgrounds understand love differently and how they express love is varied as well. The definition of love is never fully agreeable, for it has such a diverse spectrum; it can be a feeling of affection, respect or even sorrow and hatred. Among these diverse facets, sacrifice is one feature of love that I believe is most important and superior.

Loving people sacrifice each other and fully devote themselves into their lover. As two people with different history, personality, preference and values come together, the painful process of adjustment starts. The two-or even more within friends-must give up what they have been holding on for their lifetime to lead on the relationship. The joy of loving and being loved is mostly overwhelming compared to the pain of sacrifice, but sometimes it takes more than that. One might have to abandon their ultimate values for his lover and encounter a conflict between love and himself. For instance, sacrifice can be spotted among families; more specifically in maternal and fraternal love. I was an unexpected child who was, making it worse, born 3 months in advance of the due date. My parents were unready for a child, so they had to hastefully give up a lot of their values. My mother had to resign from her job which she had been passionately devoted throughout her life, and my father had to quit smoking for the newly delivered baby. The list can go on forever, but they were willing to happily give up what has been making up a large portion of their lives. From their willingness, I learned that love comes with sacrifice and vice versa.

Love is a process of adapting each other to the bond that leads on the relationship. Lovers may end up gaining or losing from the sacrifice, but it is an irrefutable truth that sacrifice is a prerequisite of love. All lovers, up to some extent, sacrifice each other solely for the love- to continue and develop it.
