Christina Woo/Chapter2 Part5 A1/Wed 1-2

Definition of love

"And now these three remain: faith, hope, and love; but the greatest of these is love." It is a famous scripture from the Christian bible. The definition of love has infinite explanations and meanings, but really, what is the true answer to this? I have cut it down into three words. Care, share, and dare.

My first definition of love is to care. Caring for others as if the problem and situation is your own. It is not to think less of yourself, but to think more of the person you love first. Caring is making an effort instead of making excuses. I believe that when someone truly cares for you, your feelings would unconsciously connect, even without having to hearing it or saying it. Caring takes effort, and even the tiniest creatures needs to be cared for in order to live.

My second definition of love is to share. It is said that happiness is only real when it is shared with another, and what use is it by trying hard to reach your goals and dreams if there is no person to share it with? The more we have, the more we want, so in such a time as this where people are becoming selfish and striving for more, why don't we start sharing with a genuine and sincere heart?

The last definition of love is to dare. A daring love is like a battery energy. Two people's energy and effort gives a magnificent power in the society. So don't just expect a lovey-dovey relationship. In fact, love should be daring and challenging enough in order to grow together.

In conclusion, love cannot be fully explained in words. There is no right answer for what love is. However, as for me, caring, sharing, and daring is an important factor of love which is the most difficult task; something we learn eternally.

3 questions about the topic

  1. How can love be fully explained? Can it?

  2. Challenge is an important factor. Do most people take the challenge and dare positively?

  3. How do you know if someone is "the one" for you? As in life partner?

  1. Hello. I'm Sungtae Kim. I enjoyed reading this essay. It was kind of different from what I've read before. The quote in the first paragraph was interesting hook. The way you connect this quote to the topic was impressive but I think it would have been better if you elaborate some more about the quote you used. That is, I feel that the connection in the first paragraph is kind of weak. It gave strong impression when you condensed the major points into three words, making it easier to memorize while reading through the essay. Overall expressions were great, but I found a dependent clause in the second paragraph first two sentences. I think you should connect them into one sentence. Anyway I liked the contents and the structure of this essay. Thank you for sharing them.
