Sangwon Park / chapter1 part5/ wed 1-2

I think the oldest child would have the easiest lives. Because many scientific results, including Forer's article, said that the oldest children are very capable than their siblings. Meanwhile, Forer describe that their capability comes from their help for their siblings. That means, the oldest are generally used to helping someone else. And when the oldest grow, they would become a person who knows the pleasure of altruistic behaviors.

However, I'm not sure about their happiness. In modern society, selfish people sometimes exploit altruistic people. We often see that altruists are in enormous danger. In those circumstances, the oldest are confronted with some ironic situations. When they do the altruistic behavior, they could be in danger. On the contrary, when they don't do that, then they feel a sense of loss. Whatever they choose, they will be unhappy. I don't claim that the oldest child will live a unhappy life forever. When the society are changed and encourage people to do altruistic behavior, then the oldest child would feel happiness without worrying about risk.

In conclusion, the competence that comes from helping other people makes the oldest child easy to solve the problems in their life. But, In the course of solving problems they have to choose and do unpleasant thing, since they live in modern society.

  2. Hi, I'm Minyong and I also study prose & paragraphs. I think this was a good read and I have a question for you; how do the oldest children have the easiest lives when they have to work harder to be better than their siblings? It seems like the opposite to me. Anyways, good job!!
