Seonghwan Cho / Chapter4 Part2 B3 / WED 1-2

B3. Which "The Ant and the Grasshopper" is closer to real life, Aesop's fable or the Maugham story? Why?

According to Aesop's fable, the one who did not prepare the future, the grasshopper, has a hard time eventually. And the one who well prepared, the ant, lives a comfortable life. Meanwhile in the Maugham story, Tom who did not prepare his future lives a richer life than George who just worked hard and faithfully for his future.

After reading, I thought that Aesop's fable is still much closer to our real life. The reason Tom could live a rich life at the end of story is he had enormous charm enough to get a woman who can give everything to him. That case is not common in real life. There are not so many people who have such a fantastic attractiveness. Moreover, There are not so many people who can give everything to a person they love. Tom's case is like winning a lottery. Still, people who work harder get rewarded.
