Sungtae Kim/ Chapter 4 Part 2 Item B-3/ Wednesday 1~2

Aesop's fable and the Maugham story about 'The Ant and the Grasshopper' are reflecting two different sides of our life. Basically, we learned that putting effort is the way to success. We watched several interviews with famous people about how they succeeded and often find out that they are all talking about trying harder. They say how hard the situation was and list the poor family background. They conclude by trying to give motivation to others so that they put more effort to be a professional in one field. Often this is considered as popular model of several stories about success. But there are those stories that don't fit in this model. Some affluent people might be lazy and never put effort but still live in luxury with peace. It's ironic that two stories which seems to be delivering opposite opinions about daily life are all true. But this is our life.

Then how does this work? Let's pretend that being rich is success though some might disagree with this. Finding the start of the success can be very complicated. A man is very poor though he works very hard. Fortunately, he inherited big finance from parents who are rich and became a rich man, but at the same time he won a lottery and earned a lot of money. Also, his business which he had been working hard succeeded and now he became a CEO of his company. In this case, we cannot choose one thing and say that it is the cause of success. Success can come in numerous ways and every people have different situations. This is why the two stories that seem to be conflicting can be reality in our life.
