1. Which moral or message do you agree with the one on the esop's fable or the one in Maugham's story?

Both stories are delivering the message and consequences of some working zealously or some who are not. The Aesop's fable reflects the message that people  should do their duty diligently and expecting achievements without effort will come back as a bad karma. In other words, what you will get is the quota for your effort. On the other side, Maugham's fable had a twist in the consequence and suggested life is not always directing the way people expect. Everyone faces rise and falls in their lives and there is no one to blame about. The story is somewhat reflecting the reality in our lives that we can not precisely foresee and take a move about the future. Everything can be changed in the future or it can be not. Thus, anything that people had put effort in may not always be compensated and rewarded. I agree to the idea that story seems unfair and unjust to the kind, but the reality is not always about the good triumphing over the bad. We had to accept that where there is always justice, there also exists injustice.
